Former NA Speaker Sahibzada Farooq passes away

Sahibzada Farooq Ali, who was the 9th Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, passed away in Multan on Sunday. Farooq Ali was 91. He was born on September 5, 1931 and belonged to the Toor tribe and was originally from the Wayanwali village near Ghakhar Mandi, Wazirabad.
According to National Assembly website Sahibzada Farooq Ali Khan served as Speaker NA from 09 August, 1973 to 27 March, 1977 in the era of former prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). In the National Assembly, he was preceded by Fazal Ilahi Chaudhry and succeeded by Malik Meraj Khalid. The TV channel reported that he was also the speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan which passed the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan. It is pertinent to note that Sahibzada Farooq Ali was the chairman of the Special Committee of the House of the National Assembly proceedings.—APP
