With the support of the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training (FE&PT), the Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (FBISE) and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) have decided to jointly conduct the Pakistan Maths Olympiad (PMO).

A Letter of Understanding (LoU) was signed in this regard between the LUMS and the FBISE to enhance Mathematics education in Pakistan by conducting the PMO.

They have officially signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) to collaborate on elevating the standards of mathematics education in Pakistan by conducting Pakistan Maths Olympiad (PMO) for the students of secondary and higher secondary level and equivalent in Pakistan .

This partnership is set to make a significant impact by providing technical assistance in curriculum development at par with international practices and accordingly organizing Pakistan Mathematics Olympiad (PMO).

Under the agreement, LUMS will develop an international-level mathematics curriculum tailored to the needs of Pakistani students preparing for competitive mathematics examinations.

This curriculum will align with global standards.

The collaboration will also focus on the development of test papers for the PMO, with LUMS taking the lead in creating questions for both Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Extended Response Questions (ERQs).

These papers will be designed to assess various dimensions of mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and application skills, thus fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of mathematics among students.

In addition to curriculum and test paper development, LUMS will provide detailed rubrics and solution keys for the ERQs.

These tools will ensure transparency and accuracy in the assessment process, thereby promoting fairness and academic integrity in the PMO.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in strengthening the mathematics education framework in Pakistan. By combining FBISE’s expertise in educational assessment and LUMS’s academic excellence, the partnership aims to nurture the next generation of mathematical talent in the country.

The first phase of PMO is expected to be held in the Mid of October while the second phase will be held in December this year.

The first phase will comprise of 20 MCQs while the second phase will comprise of open ended or extended response questions.

Further details like mode and date of registration of students , eligibility criteria , contents of syllabus and model question papers will be shared shortly, according to an official of the Ministry.
