Electricity prices go up by Rs7.05 per unit: Expected bills in March 2024

ISLAMABAD – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the electricity prices by Rs7.05 per unit in Pakistan on the account of fuel cost adjustment for January 2024.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had filed an application with NEPRA seeking an increase in the electricity prices for a month.

The revised electricity prices will put an additional burden of Rs66 billion on consumers. However, the new tariff will not be applicable to K-Electric and lifeline consumers.

The distribution companies will recover the additional amount from consumers in electricity bill for March 2024.

Expected Electricity Bills in March 2024

The power distribution companies have been allowed to recover Rs7.05 per unit from their consumers in the wake of fuel cost adjustment in upcoming month of March 2024.

It means the companies will calculate the bills for March in line with the revised prices.

Increase in Gas Price

Earlier this month, the federal cabinet on Thursday increased gas prices for residential users up to 67% and for fertiliser plants by 700% to recover additional Rs242 billion from all the consumers.

Immediately after the cabinet meeting, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority issued the notification of the new gas prices aimed at meeting the International Monetary Fund’s condition to raise prices by February 15th –Thursday. The decision would take effect from the first of February and the new bills would be issued with revised rates, showed the notification.
