The Sindh Education Department has announced plans to terminate school teachers who have been absent from their duties across Karachi. This move is aimed at enhancing educational standards and preventing salaries from being paid to “ghost” teachers.
The department has instructed District and Taluka Education Officers to compile and submit a final list of these absconding teachers within two days. Despite numerous warnings, these teachers have not contacted the relevant authorities. Previously, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) provided data revealing that some teachers were living abroad while continuing to receive salaries. Some of these employees had been absent for years, using fake medical certificates to justify their non-attendance. The Education Department, working in conjunction with the FIA’s monitoring cell, identified these absconding teachers. This follows the recent dismissal of eight ghost teachers, who had been employed and receiving salaries for the past two years.
