Personnel of Sialkot’s Bambanwala Police Station on Sunday arrested Hamza Butt, the main accused in the alleged killing of two persons during the NA-75 by-election.

Police said two more FIR nominees Khalid Bagri and Javed Butt are on interim bail till February 27.

A case of firing at a polling station was registered on February 19 at Bambanwala Police Station. One of the deceased was reportedly a member of the ruling PTI while the other belonged to the PML-N.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar took notice of the violence during the by-election and sought a report from the Punjab IGP.

The NA-75 by-election flashed into national politics within no time when violence erupted killing two political workers.

PTI and PML-N Punjab leadership levelled serious allegations of stealing the ballot and creating chaos to win the constituency at all cost, against each other.

PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz on Saturday ‘exposed’ election rigging in the NA-75 by-election with what she claimed ‘irrefutable evidence’ while showering loads of praise on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for standing up to the irregularities.
