The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested terrorists in connection with the Peshawar Police Lines blast that rocked the provincial metropolis thus drawing condemnation both nationally and internationally.
The suicide bomber effectively went through three security cordons making mockery of the “ foolproof “ security , a bitter reality even admitted by the higher police authorities.
Reports said that the CCTV footage from the Police Lines gate and family quarters is being investigated. The Counter Terrorism Department had obtained the footage surrounding closed circuit television cameras.
The police official said they made major headway in the explosion apprehending attackers and a probe was underway to unearth how the suicide bomber gained access to such a highly-secured police area. The development comes as top police officials formed two joint investigation teams to probe the attack.
Initial reports claimed that more than 10kgs of explosives were used in the attack that jolted the nearby buildings as well. KP Police Inspector General Moazzam Jah Ansari had said that the attacker brought the explosive material to the Police Lines in small amounts over time, as construction work was ongoing at the site apprehending the explosives were dumped and attacker later detonated the same.
However, independent sources apprehend there must be facilitators within the Police department to help the bomber achieve his target.
