Chief Secretary Sindh Syed AsifHyder Shah officially inaugurated the Commissioner Karachi Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign by planting a tree in Karachi today. This initiative, running from July 30 to August 31, aims to plant 200,000 trees across the city. Addressing the launch event, Chief Secretary Shah highlighted the campaign’s objective to promote widespread tree planting. He underscored the urgency of addressing environmental change, noting that Pakistan is among the countries most impacted by climate change. “Planting trees is essential to mitigating the negative effects of environmental change,” he stated. He further emphasized that the campaign’s success depends not just on planting trees but also on ensuring their growth and maintenance.
The Chief Secretary called for active participation from government departments and civil society in the campaign. He also announced the launch of an awareness campaign to educate the public on the environmental and economic benefits of tree planting, stressing the need for a collective effort in forest conservation. Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi informed that the campaign will see 200,000 trees planted throughout the city.
He noted that the responsibility for the upkeep of these trees has been assigned to relevant departments to guarantee their proper growth. In support of the initiative, key officials, including the Commissioner of Karachi, the Secretary of Forests, the Secretary of Environment, and the Deputy Commissioner of South, joined in planting trees, underscoring the official backing for the campaign.
