LAHORE – In a sigh of relief for inflation-hit Pakistan, Utility Stores Corporation (USC) announced cut prices of basic commodities including cooking oil and ghee.
In parts of world, governments slash food prices ahead of Ramadan as it’s the time when families and communities come together for special meals and celebrations, fasting all day. Food giants and markets often offer discounts and promotions on basic food items to accommodate the increased demand during this period.
As Pakistanis are paying record prices in food prices, Utility Stores Corporation announced a 17 percent discount on various brands of cooking oil, ghee, tea, and detergents by up to 17 percent.
Utility Stores Corporation said the relief in prices will be applicable instantly and it is separate from the Ramadan relief package, which is set to be effective from March 4, and will be only provided to BISP beneficiaries.
Currently, more than ten brands of oil, and ghee are being sold at Utility Stores and relief was provided on all brands.

Furthermore, the cost of branded tea has been axed by Rs110 for 800-gram packs, now available at Rs 2085 compared to the previous price of Rs 2195.
Price of different brands of washing powders have also been reduced by Rs187 for 6kg, Rs124 for 3.6kg, Rs124 for 4kg, Rs116, and Rs 94 for various pack sizes.
For dishwashing soap, the price has been lowered by Rs161 for 4kg, Rs 1159 to Rs 998, and by Rs 49 for two 500ml packs. The price of 5-pack of soap has been cut by Rs 109 from Rs 505 to Rs 396.
