Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, conducted a visit to Empress Market and Parking Plaza Saddar on Wednesday to oversee market operations and address traffic issues. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner South, AltafSarhio, and Assistant Commissioner Saddar, Muhammad Imran.
At Empress Market, Commissioner Naqvi inspected the prices of vegetables, fruits, and spices. He directed shopkeepers to prominently display the official price lists and warned that failure to do so would result in fines.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of adhering to government-fixed prices to ensure fair trade practices. He also engaged with customers, advising them to refer to the official price lists when making purchases.
Commissioner Naqvi has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to regularly visit markets and bazaars with their Assistant Commissioners to enforce official pricing and ensure citizens have access to fairly priced food items. Specifically, Deputy Commissioner East, ShehzadAbbasi, was directed to ensure the Assistant Commissioner’s active involvement in the auction process at SabziMandi.
The presence of the Assistant Commissioner in the vegetable market every morning is mandatory to monitor auctions and ensure reasonable pricing by the Market Committee. During his visit to Empress Market Park, Commissioner Naqvi instructed the Deputy Commissioner South to collaborate with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to enhance the park’s conditions. He stressed the need for cleanliness, greenery, and suitable seating areas for citizens. The Deputy Commissioner provided an update on the ongoing restoration efforts to return Empress Market to its former glory.
Later, Commissioner Naqvi reviewed the parking facilities at Parking Plaza Saddar and addressed the issue of traffic congestion in the area. He committed to implementing measures to improve traffic flow and manage parking more efficiently in Saddar.
