IN a commendable move, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir took a proactive step by engaging in a constructive dialogue with Islamic scholars at General Headquarters Rawalpindi. This showcases the Army Chief’s commitment to addressing critical issues related to national unity, tolerance and security in the country.
General Asim Munir emphasized the inclusive nature of Pakistan, stating that the country belongs to all its citizens without any discrimination based on religious, provincial, tribal, linguistic, ethnic or sectarian grounds. Such a declaration is crucial in promoting a sense of national unity, reinforcing the idea that diversity should be celebrated rather than becoming a source of division. The COAS made a clear stance against the use of force or armed action by any militia, entity, or group other than the state, terming it “unacceptable.” This unequivocal rejection underscores the commitment of the military to uphold the rule of law and prevent any unauthorized use of force that could jeopardize the nation’s stability. Indeed no group can be allowed to dictate its terms or will on the people. By applauding the ‘Paigham-i-Pakistan’, the Army Chief highlighted the importance of religious scholars in discrediting extremist ideologies and promoting a more tolerant and peaceful interpretation of Islam. Then the unanimous condemnation of extremism, terrorism and sectarianism by religious scholars demonstrates a collective effort to combat divisive ideologies. The scholars pledged their support for the state and security forces in their endeavours to bring tolerance, peace and stability to the country. In our view a holistic approach involving all segments of the society is need of the hour to address the multifaceted challenges by our country. Such interactions should persist to ensure a united front against threats to the safety and security of the people. Simultaneously, it is essential to express appreciation for the sacrifices rendered by the security forces in the ongoing war on terrorism. The resolve and dedication of the security forces deserve recognition as they work tirelessly to protect the country from internal and external threats. In fact their efforts provide hope for a more peaceful and harmonious future.
