CM suspends four SBCA officials over building collapse incident

Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice MaqboolBaqar taking serious notice of the collapse of under construction building at Shah Faisal Town, Korangi which claimed five lives on Wednesday has placed the services of the four officers of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), including Director under suspension. An under-construction building on Plot No.1191, Block-5, measuring 80 Square yards, Shah Faisal Colony collapsed on Wednesday killing five people and injuring four.

The CM expressed his extreme displeasure and questioned the SBCA as to how it allowed the construction on the plot. The CM said that if such constructions were allowed people would be killed and this would not be allowed at any cost.  The officers suspended include Director SBCA Korangi Syed Muhammad Zia, Assistant Director Waseem Raja Thaheem, Senior Building Inspector Tanveer Khan, and Building Inspector KhurramRizwan.   Meanwhile, the SBCA on the orders of the chief minister has constituted a broad-based inquiry committee to probe the collapse of the building over plot No.1191, Block-5, measuring 80 Square yards, Shah Faisal Town, Korangi.Director SBCA Engineer Nadeem Ahmed (chairman), Deputy Director FaheemMurtaza (member), and Assistant Director Khalid Mansoor (member/secretary) will conduct the inquiry to examine the status of approval of the building plan and period of construction on the plot. The inquiry committee would also ascertain the role of delinquent officers/officials of the SBCA and the authorities/agencies.The report of the inquiry will be submitted within 48 hours, as ordered by the caretaker chief minister.
