Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah engaged in a significant meeting with Japanese Ambassador Wada Mitsuhiro to oversee the progress of development projects supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), valued at Rs 8500.5 million. In attendance were Consul General of Japan Tahara and First Secretary Fukuda, alongside CM Shah’s aides Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, and Secretary Investment Mureed Rahmoo.
CM Shah briefed on advancements in the JICA-backed initiative to upgrade Girls Schools into Elementary Schools in rural areas, allocated Rs2,287.24 million. Construction of 11 elementary schools, primarily in Khairpur and Naushehroferoze districts, is ongoing, with plans for expansion in Sukkur, Larkana, and Malir Karachi. Ambassador WADA emphasized the project’s significance, urging prompt completion. Conversations also revolved around the Flood Response Through Reconstruction of Education Facilities program, spanning nine districts with JICA’s support, valued at Rs1.566 billion.
The project aims to restore primary school buildings damaged by floods and heavy rains, equipped with solarized facilities and new furniture. CM Shah confirmed consultant agreements and assured imminent commencement of work.
A noteworthy initiative by the Sindh government to establish a Maternal and Child Health Care Center at Liaquat University Hospital, Jamshoro, costing Rs4963.331 million, was highlighted.
The project seeks to enhance medical services, particularly for neonatal and pediatric care. CM Shah stressed the center’s pivotal role in improving healthcare and reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in Hyderabad division and beyond.
Chairman P&D Najam Shah reported on consultant hiring and awarded construction work, aligned with JICA’s recommendations. Both leaders agreed to monitor project progress every three months for timely completion. CM Shah expressed gratitude to Ambassador WADA and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for their steadfast support in advancing the province’s development initiatives.
