City commissioner launches measles vaccination campaign

Commissioner Karachi Muhammd Iqbal Memon inaugurated the ceremony for the Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign from November 15 to 27 held at Govt Girls School at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law, Frere Town.

Deputy Commissioner South Irshad Sodhar, representatives of Unicef, Bill Gates and Melinda Foundation, officials of  EOC,  health department and others were also present on the occasion. Children were vaccinated at the launching by trained and qualified vaccinators.

Commissioner talking to the media on the occasion said that the campaign was being launched in Karachi along with other parts of the country with the support of Unicef and Bill Gates and Melinda Foundation to protect the children against Measles and Rubella through vaccination   .

Commissioner highlightingthe importance of the need of the vaccination for protection of children against the measles and Rubella said that city administration would extend its full support to make the efforts successful so as  to ensure children could be protected from Measles and Rubella.

He said all the seven deputy commissioners have been directed to activate the district polio control rooms to work as the MR Vaccination Campaign under the leadership of concerned Deputy Commissioners. Deputy Commissioners have been asked to hold the consultation meeting every day before the start of the vaccination campaign and also hold the meetings to review the performance  every day.

The Commissioner urged the parents to get their children vaccinated so that the government’s efforts to protect the children from the Measles and Rubella are achieved.
