Chicken, egg prices soar as winter rains begin – Today rates

LAHORE – Chicken meat and egg prices have registered upward trend in Lahore and other cities of Punjab as temperature dropped following the first winter rain.

Today, December 23, the price of chicken meat surged by Rs7, making it Rs475 per kilogram as compared to Rs468 per kg yesterday.

The price of live broiler chickens has also increased by Rs5, bringing the wholesale rate to Rs314 per kg, while the retail price now stands at Rs328 per kg.

The Lahore administration has also raised the price of eggs by another Rs1 in the official price list, fixing the new price for per dozen eggs at Rs326.

In Multan, the wholesale rate of broiler chicken stands at Rs294 per kilogram, while the retail rate is Rs308 per kg. The price of broiler meat stands at Rs446 per kilogram, while eggs rate stands at Rs324 per dozen.

The rates are expected to go up in coming days as the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted an increase in intensity of cold weather.

Temperature dropped significantly in Lahore on Monday after the Punjab capital received its first winter rain ending a long dry spell.

Rain lashes Garhi Shahu, Abbott Road, Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Model Town, Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, Garden Town, Johar Town, Baghbanpura, Canal Road, Sabzarar and other parts of the city. Temperature has dropped to 9°C in Lahore.

PMD said light rain is expected to continue throughout the day in Lahore, Kasur, Kahna, Pakpattan, Gujranwala and Renala Khurd.

It has forecasted severe cold in mountainous regions, including Murree during morning and night. Fog or smog is likely to hit several cities of Punjab.
