Elections in three Cantonment Boards in Balochistan including the provincial capital Quetta, Zhob and neighboring Loralai held here on Sunday. The polling held in a total of seven wards, in Quetta, Zhob and Loralai districts.
In Zhob district, Balochistan Awami Party candidates Juma Khan and Akhter Gul won the ward No.1 and ward No.2 seats with 59 and 115 votes respectively. Total seven candidates hailing from different political parties and an independent candidate were in the fray for two wards.
BAP, JUI-F and PPP contested the cantonment board elections held amid tight security. At least 808 voters – including 447 men and 361 women –exercised their right to vote from 8am to 5pm without any break.
As many as 2 polling stations and 4 polling booths were set up for the voters. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rules, the election campaign by the candidates and their supporters ended by midnight between Friday and Saturday Apart from the police personnel deployed inside and outside the polling stations, paramilitary personnel were also present at the polling stations.
District Police Officer Fahad Khosa visited the polling stations and inspected the security arrangements.
The candidates of political parties and independent candidates and their supporters had displayed their respective banners, posters and party flags at the camps set up close to the polling premises.
According to the instructions issued by the ECP, the use of mobile phones was completely banned inside the polling station during the election process. This rule was also applied to the polling agents; however, presiding officers and assisting presiding officers were exempted from such rules.
