The Sindh Cabinet has approved a project to address the water scarcity issue in the city by introducing a new canal from Hub Dam, with an estimated cost of Rs. 12 billion. The project aims to complete within 12 months, ensuring a daily supply of 20 crore gallons of water from Hub Dam to residents in western, central, Kemari, Lyari, and other areas. “Water is our right, our system, and our people,” remarked Mayor Karachi and Chairman of the Water Corporation, Barrister MurtazaWahab, during a meeting with various UC Chairpersons at the Secretariat Building. “Providing better water and drainage facilities to citizens is among our top priorities.”
He urged the Water Corporation to play its role in increasing revenue, stating,
“As the institution’s revenue improves, it will be better equipped to resolve issues promptly.” The meeting, attended by the CEO of the Water Corporation, Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, and COO Engineer Asadullah Khan, along with relevant superintendents and executive engineers, saw various UC Chairpersons highlighting water supply and drainage issues in their respective areas.
Mayor Karachi assured the delegation of prompt resolution of all complaints, instructing officials to prioritize the resolution of water supply and drainage issues throughout the city. He directed all UC Chairpersons to collaborate with the Water Corporation to address these issues effectively.
