In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the residents of territory are faced with an existential threat as the Bharatiya Janata Party government in India is plundering resources of Jammu and Kashmir like the East India Company once did in the subcontinent.
This was stated in a resolution adopted in the PDP in meeting chaired by its President, Mehbooba Mufti, in Srinagar.
The resolution said special settlements are being constructed for outsiders as the local population is evicted from their homes and lands while an eco-nomic disempowerment is being executed by bring-ing in contractors aligned to BJP from outside like the East India Company once did and looting IIOJK’s resources from water to sand.
The resolution said the Kashmiri youth are being wasted in prisons on whims of government agencies, their employment avenues are curtailed with an officially sponsored import of population from various Indian states in the BJP’s settler project and demographic change currently under execution.
The PDP said the special status was a source of dignity and comfort not just for people of Kashmir but had its positive impact for the entire region. It observed that the residents of IIOJK are faced with an existential threat. It resolved to renew its pledge to fight peacefully and democratically for restoration of ‘illegally snatched constitutional rights’.
The resolution said the PDP believes there are no short cuts to a lasting peace in the state and region as is evidenced by the complete flop of muscular policies adopted by the BJP government in the last five years of direct rule. It added that the process has to be led by the Kashmiri people and aided by the governments of India and Pakistan.
The party also called for the release of all Kashmiri political prisoners and demanded that the Indian forces must be held accountable for their brutal actions.—KMS
