Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid a heartfelt tribute to the 16 martyrs of PunhalChandio village, who were brutally killed by General Zia-ul-Haq’s oppressive regime during the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD) on September 29, 1983, in Shaheed Benazirabad. On the 41st anniversary of the tragedy, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari honored the immense sacrifices of these brave souls, who stood against dictatorship and fought for democracy. “They fought for the principles of democracy and justice, and their ultimate sacrifice has cemented their place in the history of Pakistan’s democratic journey,” he said. The 16 martyrs, including Tharoo Chandio, Rajab Ali Chandio, Ali Sher Chandio, and Ghulam Mustafa Chandio, were killed in Taluka Sakrand, district Shaheed Benazirabad, during a peaceful protest. Their names continue to be remembered for their bravery in the struggle for democracy.

“Our martyrs live forever in our hearts, and their courage remains a beacon of hope for all who believe in the sanctity of people’s rule,” Bilawal concluded, urging the nation to uphold the legacy of these martyrs by reinforcing the foundations of democracy and freedom in Pakistan.
