Washington: The United States President Joe Biden announced his decision of blocking Russian planes from entering its airspace, following its allies – Europe and other nations – who had already shunned their skies for Russian aircraft in an attempt to isolate Russia on the global arena.
“Tonight, I am announcing that we will join our allies in closing off American airspace to all Russian flights, further isolating Russia and adding additional squeeze on their economy,” Joe Biden said.

Earlier, White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked whether the US was considering such a move. To which she had answered that no such move was in consideration.
She had also said that implementing a no-fly zone on Russia could draw the US into the war with Russia.
Psaki had also said that the move was crucial because the number of US flights that fly over Russia to go to Asia and other parts of the world played a role in the decision.
Meanwhile, Russia has shown no sign of stopping an assault that has included strikes on Kyiv and rocket attacks in the second city of Kharkiv. Dozens have been killed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on Russia to stop bombarding civilians and resume talks.
“It’s necessary to at least stop bombing people, just stop the bombing and then sit down at the negotiating table,” Zelenskiy said.
