Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (rtd) MaqboolBaqar during his whirlwind surprise visit to a 50-bedded hospital, secondary school, police station, and veterinary hospital in Malir district suspended the services of the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, headmaster of the school, SHO and headmuhrer of the police station for inefficiency, and lack of interest in their work and also ordered an inquiry against the In charge of animal husbandry hospital and concerned deputy director. The CM on Tuesday morning started a surprise visit to District Malir. 2-A Corridor Hospital: The CM accompanied by caretaker Health Minister Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz and Secretary Health Dr. Mansor during his visit to 2-1 Corridor 50-bed Hospital Landhi was rich with resources.
It had special doctors, but its operation theater was totally nonfunctional though the operation tables, operation lights, and other OT-related facilities were developed in the Operation Theater. The hospital had qualified orthopedists, gynecologists, and Chest specialists but they were referring their patients to other hospitals because they had no facilities for conducting surgeries within the hospital. When the CM visited the pharmacy, it was almost empty of medicines and whatever stock was available was of painkillers. There was no ward, and all the beds were rusting due to heavy layers of dust.
The hospital had no technicians and para-medical staff even though it had an ambulance, but it had no driver. To a question, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Abdullah Brohi told the CM that he had not reported the issues of the hospital to the Health Department about the shortage of staff. The medicines recommended by the specialists working in the hospital for local purchase were ignored and only those medicines were purchased which were not required. Some patients complained to the CM that a local person identified as Hassan Jan had established his sway in the hospital and was harassing the doctors and other staff.
The CM directed the SSP to investigate the matter and report him. He also directed the police to keep an eye on Hassan Jan and not allow him to enter the premises of the hospital.
The chief minister placed the services of the MS of the hospital Dr Abdullah Brohi and ordered an inquiry into the hospital matters, including staff position, equipment status, budget, ambulance, kitchen, failure of starting wards etc. He directed the Secretary of Health to inquire into the matter and report him. Caretaker CM expressed his displeasure to the director and deputy director Health for their failure to conduct an inspection of the hospitals. Dispensary: Interim Chief Minister Justice Baqar along with Minister Health visited BHU JummaHamaity Goth Dispensary being managed by PPHI.
The dispensary had a shortage of medicines and its administration had not kept it properly neat and clean. The CM directed Minister Health DrSaadNiaz to talk to PPHI administration and direct them to improve the performance of the facilities given to them for operation. Sukhan Police Station: The interim CM during his surprise visit to the Sukhan Police Station found that out of its three mobiles, one was out of order and was standing on the bricks at the entrance of the police station. On his visit to the wireless room, the CM noticed that the wireless system was out of order. On inquiry he was told that the mobiles have no wireless sets, therefore the [wireless] system has ceased to function. This enraged the CM and he directed the SHO Malik Abro to call his police mobile on Facetime so that their location could be checked.
The mobiles didn’t respond and finally when he was leaving the police station the policemen on duty on the mobiles called back. To a question, the CM was told that the Police station has 131 police constables, including three lady police constables. When the CM checked the attendance of the lady policemen, they were absent for a long time. The CM directed the SSP Malir to take strict action against the lady police constables. The CM checked the weaponry and found that they were not placed properly. At this, the CM said that neither the wireless system was working nor mobiles were on patrolling, most of the policemen were absent from duty and the headmuhrer had no knowledge of Register 13. The attendance of a person placed on the 4rth Schedule was not taken.
