DECEMBER 6 is an unfortunate and awful day not only for Muslims of India but entire world as on this date back in 1992 a frenzied mob of Hindu extremists, fuelled by venomous instigation of the RSS-BJP ideology razed to ground the historic Babri mosque in Ayodhya. The demolition was followed by riots that resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of Muslims.
The demolition as well as flawed judgment of the Indian Supreme Court allowing construction of temple at the site of Babri Mosque clearly shows the extremist path India is heading for. A temple built on the site of historic mosque will remain a blot on the face of so-called Indian democracy for times to come. At the same time most disturbing is continued violence and maltreatment of Muslims in India. Ever since Modi has come to power, lynching of Muslims on one pretext or other has become a norm. The recent Delhi riots saw deaths of around 55 Muslims and material losses running into millions. The anti-Muslim measures point to the fact how Muslims in India are being demonised, dispossessed and marginalised.
The question is for how long world community, especially the Muslim world, will act as a silent spectator on this shameful conduct of Indian government. Had world community especially important capitals would have demonstrated same kind of apathy, if victims were followers of any other religion especially the Christians. The OIC really deserves appreciation for recently passing a very hard-hitting resolution against Indian atrocities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir but this should be coupled with some action also. It is time for Muslim countries to review the level of engagement with India. We once again call upon these countries to cut off all trade and diplomatic ties with India until it shuns its anti- Muslim posture and move towards resolution of Kashmir dispute.
