LAHORE – Babar Azam has been re-appointed as Pakistan’s captain for T20I and one-day internationals (ODIs).
“Babar Azam appointed as white-ball captain,” reveals the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a post shared on micro-blogging platform X, formerly Twitter.
“Following unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.”
Babar Azam was previously appointed white-ball captain in 2019 and as Test skipper in the following year. Though the team performed better under his leadership, Pakistan failed to win any ICC event.
Prolific top-order batsman stepped down as Green Shirts skipper in November last year. He was replaced by left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi as T20I and ODI captain. Opener Shaheen Masood was assigned the task of leading the national side in the longer format.
Babar Azam has so far represented Pakistan in 52 Tests, 117 ODIs and 109 T20Is. He has led 71 T20 matches including T20 World Cup as the team’s captain.
