ATC okays trial of SSP, DSP in kidnapping for ransom, dacoity case

With the Orangi Town house robbery case against former SSP South Imran Qureshi and DSP Umair Tariq Bajari far from over, an anti-terrorism court has given the go-ahead to their trial in another case pertaining to alleged kidnapping for ransom and dacoity.

Muhammad MansoorShaikh, a retired army officer, filed a direct complaint, accusing against SSP Qureshi, DSP-UT Umair Tariq, Boat Basin SHO RiazNiazi, then Defence SHO Shoukat, ASI Ali Hasan of the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station, Shireen Jinnah Chowki in-charge Muslim Shah, Constables Khurram and Rabnawaz, as well as over a dozen unknown persons/ officials, for their alleged involvement in kidnapping him, his son-in-law and servant and looting cash, mobile phones and other valuables from his house in October last year.

The ATC-XV judge took cognisance of alleged offences punishable under Section 365-A (kidnapping or abducting for extorting property, valuable security, etc.), 395 (dacoity), and 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
