Sri Lankan selectors and team management have summoned 22-year-old Asitha Fernando to replace injured Nuwan Pradeep but their first choice replacement was another pacer Kasun Rajitha.
Sri Lankan pace bowler has sustained a hamstring injury and will miss the forthcoming T-20I against visiting West Indies team. “Our coach (Mickey Arthur) wanted Rajitha to be called but he is carrying some minor injury while playing Club cricket and therefore Asitha Fernando is recalled”, a source close to the team management said exclusively over telephone from Kandy.
The 33-year-old right-arm fast bowler Pradeep sustained the hamstring injury while bowling his fifth over of his ten-over quota and 37th over of the West Indie batting.
Another blow “Dhananjaya de Silva has some wrist injury and leaving for Colombo for some surgery on Monday”.
The 28-year-old Dhananjaya did not suffer this injury in the match but was playing with discomfort and therefore both Nuwan Pradeep and Dhananjaya are being sent to Colombo”, the source further added.
Interestingly, only one replacement is sought. “Arthur is “happy” to have 14-member squad for both the T-20i to be played on March 4 and 6″, the source further added. Pradeep could bowl only four overs when he was affected with hamstring injury and his place was taken by a substitute fielder Lahiruu Kumara and the remaining three balls of his incomplete over was finished by Thisara Perera.
The trainer came on to the field and took him off to the ground. Rare incident In the 3rd ODI, a rare (if not the rarest) incident happened.
