The final decision about the commencement of holy month of Muharram, which marks the start of the new Islamic year, will be taken by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee since it is the competent authority in this regard.

Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the committee’s meeting on July 6 (Saturday) in Quetta to see the crescent of the first month of the new Islamic year.

Furthermore, the zonal committees of the Ruet-e-Hilal will also meet in different regions for the moon sighting.

Ashura is observed on Muharram 9 and 10 to remember the sacrifices rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussan (RA) and his companions in Karbala.

During Muharram, and specifically in Ashura, people mark processions and special gatherings across the country to pay tribute to them.

There are public holidays across the country on Muharram 9 and 10 to mark the Ashura with religious reverence.

The Punjab Home Department issued security guidelines for Muharram processions and congregations across the province.

As per the guidelines, designated entrance and exit routes will be established, and walk-through gates will be installed at all sensitive locations.

In Sindh, the provincial government has banned pillion riding for first ten days of Muharram due to the security reasons.
