Our healthcare staff has been dedicated day and night, in the fight against COVID-19 and to contain its spread in the community. As a tertiary academic medical center, we continue to treat and manage all types of patients, including those with COVID 19. Patients with suspected or confirmed COVID 19 are being treated in especially designed and designated areas of the hospital. Similar to the experience across the globe, in a pandemic of this magnitude, it is probable for healthcare professionals to become exposed and some may even contract the infection, despite following the strictest Infection Control practices, in line with the international guidelines. At AKUH, any healthcare staff who may be exposed, are immediately tested and provided appropriate care.
We saw a large volume of patients at the COVID-19 Screening and Testing facility that we had set up in our Community Health Centre (CHC). However, with the city in lock down and concerns with patient congregations, we are not able to re-open this facility for now.
Those people who are concerned about COVID 19 and may be feeling mild sickness, are advised to call our dedicated helpline: 021-111-911-911.—PR
