Administration issues alert to prevent spread of dengue

The district administration on Friday issued a red alert to the health department in order to prevent the spread of dengue.

Deputy Commissioner Rizwan Qadeer chaired a meeting with health department officials to review the steps taken to eliminate dengue larvae and initiatives.

Qadeer directed the officials to go out in the field and take all necessary measures to control the spread of dengue. He also warned of strict action against any negligence.

The DC emphasized the need to pay special attention to disposing of indoor larvae at domestic and commercial sites. He also ordered third-party check-ing to monitor the activities of the field staff.

Qadeer said that the city has become sensitive to dengue due to the change in weather conditions. He urged the citizens to adopt precautionary measures to avoid dengue mosquitoes.

The DC also stated that the district administration was collecting data from private hospitals’ laborato-ries to compile an accurate record of dengue patients. He added that assistant commissioners have also been given the task of special checking.

Focal person for Dengue Dr. Atta-ul-Rahman gave a detailed briefing on the campaign during the meeting. It is worth mentioned here that over 213 new dengue cases were reported in Punjab on Sunday.

The latest information from the Health Department shows 10,265 affirmed dengue cases across 36 dis-tricts in Punjab this year. Lahore leads the count with 4,423 cases, followed by Rawalpindi with 2,357, Multan with 1,035, Faisalabad with 477, and Gujranwala with 893 cases. Lahore reports 107 extra new cases, Rawalpindi 8, Multan 23, Gujranwala 34, Faisalabad 19 and Sheikhupura 5 cases. Kasur and Bahawalpur each reported three cases in 24 hours. Narowal, Sahiwal, Sialkot and Rajanpur each saw two new cases. Toba Tek Singh, Jehlum and Vehari each detailed one instance of dengue in 24 hours.

As of now, 132 dengue patients are under treatment in different emergency clinics across Punjab, with 68 of them in Lahore clinics. Punjab Health Secretary Ali Jaan Khan requested people to keep their environment clean and dry as a preventive measure against dengue fever. He asked collaboration with health department teams who are attempting to battle the flare-up.
