The Karachi administration has issued a notification on Thursday, establishing prices for various essential items within the city. Sugar’s wholesale market price has been set at Rs 137 per kilogram, with the retail price fixed at Rs 140 per kilogram. Additionally, Chakki flour has been priced at Rs 123 per kilogram. The notification also specifies the prices of tandoori naan (120 grams) at Rs 17 and chapati (100 grams) at Rs 12.
Commissioner Karachi has cautioned that strict action will be taken against any individuals or entities found violating the official price regulations. Earlier reports highlighted the discrepancy in prices between utility stores and the market in Islamabad. Utility stores were reported to be selling essential commodities at significantly higher rates compared to the market.
For instance, a 20-kilogram bag of wheat flour was priced at Rs 2840 in utility stores, whereas the market rate stood at Rs 2816.46. Similarly, Sella rice was being sold at Rs 370 per kilogram at utility stores, reflecting an excess of Rs 54 per kilogram compared to market prices.
