Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed has said that an agreement has been signed with the concerned department of Sindh Police to enhance the efficiency of the Emergency Response Department (ERD) of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
Staff will be trained to deal with emergencies on modern lines. We strive to work with other civic bodies and civil society to improve the city, working together to create a sense of public participation.
He expressed these views while addressing the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the KMC and the Security and Emergency Services Division Sindh Police at Frere Hall on Thursday evening.
Superintendent of Police Security and Emergency Services Division Abdullah Memon, Director City Warden Raja Rustam and other KMC and police officers were also present.
The administrator the objectives of the project include training and human resource development, technical support and co-operation in case of emergency or natural disasters, adding that the project would make a clear difference in the delivery of local government services under which Karachi Metropolitan Fire Safety Officers, City Wardens, Drivers, Urban Rescue Team members will be prepared to deal with any situation mentally and physically.
The duration of this project will be from 15th March to 15th October during which all the works will be completed.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Raja Rustam, Director City Warden, KMC and Abdullah Memon, Superintendent of Police Security and Emergency Services Division, Sindh Police on behalf of KMC and Sindh Police.
Laiq Ahmed described the agreement as a significant step forward in the payment of security and rescue services in the city and hoped that this cooperation would be further expanded in the future.
