Sonia, one of the African elephants at Karachi’s Safari Park, passed away unexpectedly. According to park officials, Sonia had been healthy and showing no signs of illness, eating normally until her sudden demise. Park staff discovered her lifeless body early in the morning, and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. Sonia’s passing follows the death of Noor Jehan, a 17-year-old African elephant at Karachi Zoo, earlier this year.

Noor Jehan had undergone emergency treatment for a tumor in April under the supervision of international experts, including the Four Paws team. Tragically, despite initial signs of recovery, she fell into a pond and succumbed to her health complications.

The four elephants—Madhubala, Noor Jehan, Sonia, and Malika—were brought to Pakistan in 2009 after being captured in the wild at a young age. Upon arrival, they were separated: Madhubala and Noor Jehan were moved to Karachi Zoo, while Sonia and Malika were sent to Safari Park.
