ISLAMABAD – Administration in major cities have started taking measures such as blocking roads and heightening security ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest in Islamabad against the government.
Imran Khan-led party has announced to stage a protest in Islamabad on November 24 to press their demands regarding release of party founder and workers, and reversal of recently approved constitutional amendments regarding judiciary.
To foil the planned protest of PTI, authorities in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and other cities have started blocking roads. The National Highways and Motorways Police have also closed six major motorways in what he calls wake of maintenance.
Latest Situation of Motorways
Following motorways have been closed for indefinite period by the authorities asking people to avoid using these roads:
M1 Peshawar to Islamabad
M2 Lahore to Islamabad
M3 Lahore to Abdul Hakim
M4 Pindi Bhattian to Multan
M11 Sialkot to Lahore
M14 Yark to Hakla
Situation of Lahore-Islamabad GT Road
All key sections of Lahore-Islamabad GT Road including Muridke to Jhelum and Chenab River Bridge in Gujrat, have completely been barricaded by placing containers.
Barriers have also been placed at various points such as Sadhoke Check-post, Nandipur Check-post, Jhelum, Kamoke, Shahdara, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Sheikhupura.
Roads Situation in Islamabad and Rawalpindi
Authorities have decided to put blockades at 33 different points in twin cities in order to prevent the PTI supporters from entering the capital city for protest.
Faizabad along with six other locations has been blocked with containers. Faizabad, IJP Road, Rawat T Chowk, Kharaj Factory, Mandra, and Taxila Road have been closed, while Kacheri Chowk will operate with one-way traffic.
Situation of Roads in Lahore
Police have completely closed down the Lahore Ring Road ahead of the PTI’s call for protest on Sunday in order to avoid unrest or violent protests.
Furthermore, exit points have also been closed in Lahore with authorities asking people to use alternative routes.
