Haider Ali, the head of the LPG Action Committee, has issued a warning of a city-wide strike over alleged harassment of LPG shopkeepers by authorities. Speaking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club, Ali stated that if the administration does not cease its harassment within the next ten days, they will shut down all LPG shops in the city.

He highlighted that police interference has led to a price hike of six rupees per kilogram for LPG. Ali urged the Sindh Chief Minister to intervene in the matter, expressing that individuals in the LPG sector are suffering significantly due to the indifference and negligence of both the administration and the police. He noted that conducting LPG business has become increasingly challenging. During the press conference, Ali and other members of the LPG Action Committee, including the convener of FPCCI Muhammad Ali, emphasized their frustrations with the current situation. They warned that if the police and administration’s behavior does not improve within ten days, they would be compelled to halt operations and go on strike. Ali further stated that the LPG sector contributes millions of rupees annually in tax revenue to the government.

He called for an end to police harassment, asserting their readiness to engage positively with the administration. He demanded that shops operating in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) be allowed to remain open immediately. He also called on the Chief Minister, Governor, and Interior Minister of Sindh to put a stop to the economic victimization of the LPG community.

Ali announced plans to enforce the closure of LPG shops in high-rise buildings and called for action against manufacturers of substandard cylinders.
