ISLAMABAD – A district and sessions court in the federal capital acquitted PTI founder Imran Khan, party leader Faisal Javed Khan former planning minister Asad Umar and others in the vandalism case.

Judicial Magistrate Shabbir Bhatti also approved the acquittal pleas filed by Raja Khurram Nawaz, Ali Nawaz Awan in the case.

The judge remarked that defence lawyer had argued that Imran Khan and other suspects were not aware of imposition of section 144 as additional district magistrate had not issued any notification in this regard.

He contended that his clients were booked in the case just for the sake of political victimization.

The court remarked that the notification regarding imposition of section 144 was not made public, adding that the case was registered on the complaint filed by SHO Tarnol police station.

The judge added that 11 witnessed were named in the challan but no one appeared before him to record the statement.

It is recalled that the case was registered against them in May 2022 at the Tarnol police station over alleged vandalism during the PTI long march.
