Sheikha Fatima Binat Mubarak Hospital, a vital healthcare facility in South Waziristan Lower Wana, is currently in the throes of a severe financial crisis. The hospital, operating under a Public Private Partnership with the support of TCP, has been unable to pay its employees for the past nine months, leading to a disruption in medical services and a protest by the staff.
Hospital officials disclosed that due to the non-release of funds, only the emergency department remains operational while all other services have been suspended. Approximately 66 employees, including doctors, paramedic staff, nurses, and class IV employees, have gone on strike to demand their long-overdue salaries.
Dr. IkramUllah Khan, the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, voiced his concern over the dire situation. He explained that for the past nine months, the dedicated doctors, paramedics, nurses, and other staff have not received their salaries, leaving them struggling to afford even basic necessities. The situation has placed immense financial stress on the hospital staff.
Dr. Khan urgently called upon the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the health department to release the necessary funds to address this humanitarian crisis. As a result of the ongoing protest and the financial turmoil, all hospital services have been suspended, leaving only the emergency department available on an as-needed basis for patients.
