Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, has strongly denounced the continued house arrest of its chief and senior APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who completed four years of his arbitrary detention, today.

The Narendra Modi-led Indian government had put the Mirwaiz under house arrest on this day in 2019, hours before it revoked the special status of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Anjuman in a statement said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has not been allowed to offer Juma prayers in the last four years, which is highly condemnable. It said, despite repeated appeals from people, who are distressed by the incarceration of their Mirwaiz, the authorities are unmoved and unconcerned.

The Anjuman said that today on the occasion of the Friday prayers, people present in the Jamia Masjid including men, women old and young peacefully protested against the continued incarceration of the Mirwaiz. It said that holding placards and banners in their hands, the protesters appealed to the authorities for his immediate release.—KMS
