The Election Commission of Pakistan and the federal government have pleaded for more time in Lahore High Court to respond if Imran Khan could be removed as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman.
Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi took up the petition filed by Advocate Muhammad Afaque. The lawyers representing the Election Commission of Pakistan and the federal government requested the LHC to grant more time to submit a reply to disqualification plea.
The LHC granted two weeks to respondents to submit their replies and adjourned the hearing till November 25. The petitioner argued Imran Khan cannot head a political party under the Political Parties Order after his disqualification from the NA-95 constituency following Toshakhana reference. He argued that Imran is still chairman of PTI which is violation of the laws.
The ECP disqualified the former prime minister for holding parliament membership in the Toshakhana reference under Article 63(1)(p). The ECP stated that Imran Khan submitted a false affidavit and was found involved in corrupt practices.
