Public universities to reopen in 10 days: IEA officials

Deputy Minister of Higher Education of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said that all public universities will be reopened in 10 or 15 days.

Speaking at a gathering in Kabul on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Lutfullah Khairkhwa said that the universities will reopen only in tropical provinces. Afghanistan’s educational year is divided into tropical provinces and those where it snows and the winter is colder. The educational year in the latter starts in March while in tropical provinces, the year is not ended yet.Lutfullah Khairkhwa said that universities will reopen only for the students of last semester and those who are going to graduate.He added that the Ministry is working on a mechanism to reopen universities for the rest of the students as well.

Likewise, other officials of the IEA, Khairkhwa reiterated that the classes of boys and girls will be separated at universities.It has been nearly six months that 150 public universities in Afghanistan are closed which has affected the educational career of hundreds of thousands of students.—Agencies
