The residents of the territory continue to suffer immensely in the times of coronavirus pandemic due to continued blockade of high speed internet service. Kashmir High Court Bar Association spokesman, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, in an interview in Srinagar said the judges in IIOJK have stopped acting independently since the August 2019 clampdown imposed by the Indian government. Shaheen said this while reacting to the reports that a principal sessions judge in Srinagar has passed an order complaining that a high court judge obstructed him from granting bail to an individual, raising questions over the judiciary’s functioning in IIOJK post-August 05, 2019.
A senior teacher and acting principal of a government higher secondary school in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was thrashed by an Indian policeman. The teacher, Rizwan Ahmed Mir, told media that a head constable abused and assaulted him after he went to Police Station Karnah for the physical verification of stationery including question papers for this year’s Class 11 examination.
Hurriyat leaders including Javaid Ahmed Mir, Firdous Ahmed Shah and Nisar Hussain Rathar appeared before a TADA court in Srinagar in a fake case registered against them in 2007.
On the other hand, Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has approved a fresh budget for the police in IIOJK to procure 100 fresh unarmed vehicles or drones for surveillance purpose. As per the police specifications, these UAVs will be of category 3, which is considered the latest and equipped with all sorts of technology.
An Indian soldier died due to cardiac arrest during a cordon and search operation in Chitragam area of Shopian district, last night. Another soldier was killed after he fell into a deep gorge in Nowshera area of Rajouri district, today.
Meanwhile, a white blanket of snow covered Kashmir on Saturday as all parts of the valley received fairly heavy snowfall. All main roads including Srinagar-Jammu highway, Srinagar-Leh highway and Mughal Road were closed due to snowfall, landslides and shooting stones at several places.
The speakers of a webinar organized by UK-based Tehreek-e-Kashmir urged the international community to take cognizance of rising human rights violations by Indian troops in IIOJK.
