With the onset of winter, the price of eggs has reached Rs 170 per dozen in Sindh’s capital.
General Secretary Sindh Poultry Wholesalers and Retailers Association Mansoor Ahmed in this regard said that egg was the basic food of a poor man. He said that heavy taxes imposed by the government, especially on food items, have increased the price of eggs.Mansoor Ahmed said that all the taxes imposed by the government also affect the price of eggs. He said that 40 percent of egg producers in Pakistan have stopped production.
Mansoor Ahmed further said that at present egg production in Pakistan is very low and demand is increasing due to winter. He said that the increase in egg price was due to an increase in production cost.
He said that every second and third production house of Pakistan eggs has been locked. Mansoor Ahmed said that in order to reduce the price of eggs, it is necessary to increase production for which the cost of production must be reduced. The price of eggs has gone up by Rs 50 in a week in Karachi. Regarding the sudden rise in egg prices, Mushtaq Awan, president of the Poultry Association, said that eggs have become more expensive due to high feed prices and poor breeding due to coronavirus.
