In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, political analysts, experts of international affairs and Kashmir watchers have said that the Kashmir dispute is expected to be necessarily discussed at the upcoming 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly commencing in New York on 15th of this month.
Talking to Kashmir Media Service over phone from Srinagar, the analysts and experts, wishing anonymity due to reprisal from the Indian apparatus in IIOJK said, since Kashmir is a long-standing issue on the UN agenda, the World Body is, therefore, morally and legally bound to come forward in a big way to settle it as per its resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
They said that the UN should redouble its efforts to implement its past resolutions on the Kashmir dispute. They pointed out that Pakistan Prime Minister, Imran Khan, highlighted the Kashmir dispute very forcefully at last year’s UNGA summit. “PM Imran Khan convincingly used last year’s UNGA summit to expose Modi’s nefarious plans in IIOJK. Imran Khan has time and again urged UN to play its rightful role to ensure Kashmiris exercise their right to self-determination. Pakistan has again devised a strategy to raise the Kashmir dispute with full energy in upcoming UNGA summit,” they said.
The political analysts and Kashmir experts pointed out that Pakistan’s moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmir cause had always been a source of encouragement for the Kashmiris in their struggle for securing their right to self-determination. They expressed the confidence that this support would continue till holding of UN-mandated plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.
They said that the Kashmir dispute must be resolved as per the relevant UN resolutions and the United Nations Security Council must continue convening sessions to discuss the grim situation in IIOJK.
“UN must pressurize India to lift inhuman military siege in IIOJK. It should take steps to address humanitarian crisis in the territory. The UN should bind India to act as per the World Body’s resolutions on Kashmir. Debate about the Kashmir dispute must continue at the global level till its just resolution,” they added.—KMS
