Two children among six killed in Karachi heavy rains Pak Army relief efforts in full swing in the port city

As many as six people including two children were killed in the last two days’ incessant monsoon rains while two children are still missing, who may have drowned in the sewerage line in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi.
According to details, two children were killed in two different areas of the metropolis as a child resident of Musharraf Colony was died when wall of his house collapsed while another child drowned in nullah in SITE area of Karachi.
In other incidents, a man was killed in Landhi over falling of his house wall while electrucution claimed two lives in Ayub Goth of New Karachi and Pakistan Chowlk.
Meanwhile, a person was drowned in the rain accumalated flood water in Malir Sammu Goth.while two children missing after drowning in the sewerage lines of Gulshan-e-Iqbal are still on large.
Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court (SHC) building has also been affected by the ongoing monsoon rain in Karachi as the court’s compound has been inundated on Wednesday.
SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh has taken notice of the situation and ordered to drain out the rainwater from the premises.
It is pertinent here to mention that downpours in different parts of Karachi have worsened the situation by causing urban flooding in various parts of the metropolitan city and rainwater has accumulated on roads and all low-lying areas resulting in disruption in the traffic flow.
Pakistan Army teams reached to help the civilians as the Lath and Thado dams overflowed in Kirthar regions after heavy rains. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), there was severe flood situation near the Northern Bypass and Malir River as Lath dam overflowed.The armed forces continued with their relief and rescue efforts in the metropolis on Wednesday, after torrential rains left residents of several low-lying areas stranded and without help.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, “Army Engineers’ machinery including heavy plant effort is in progress to stop water flow from Malir Nadi by refilling the breached area.”
Water in Malir Nadi has been reduced and backflow from Quaidabad to Malir Nadi has started, said the military’s media wing, adding that boats have been deployed in various areas to shift stranded people to safer places.
ISPR added that more than 200 families have been marooned on rooftops due to heavy flooding in Malir Nadi, Kohi Goth and Dur Muhammad Goth.
“Cooked meal is being provided to affected population struck due to heavy rains. Due to heavy water current at the moment, Army helicopters will be flown to rescue these families after weather clearance,” it added.
Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had directed the military troops to set up relief operations in Karachi to assist the people affected by heavy rains. “Troops must reach out to affected population in distress and extend all necessary care”, the army chief had said.
