Jam terms Malaysia’s journey towards economic success as extraordinary, quite inspiring
High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan Mohammad Azhar Mazlan has reaffirmed commitment to Malaysia-Pakistan friendship saying Malaysia highly valued relations with Pakistan and the cooperation between the two countries dates back to 1957 with establishment of Pakistan’s high commission in Kuala Lumpur.
The Malaysian high commissioner expressed these views while addressing at a reception hosted by his mission on the eve of the 67th National Day of Malaysia at Serena Hotel. Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Muhammad Kamal Khan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The reception turned out to be a well-attended affair as one could see eminent personalities including Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Governor of Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori, Dean of Diplomatic Corps, Atadjan Movlamov, Chairman of ASEAN Committee Islamabad (ACI) and High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam, Haji Kamal Bashah Bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Pakistan Observer, Mr Faisal Zahid Malik, Additional Secretary, Asia Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, heads of ASEAN Missions, parliamentarians, dignitaries, ambassadors, diplomats and a large number of Malaysian and ASEAN nationals. Pakistan is Malaysia’s strategic ally as well as third largest trade partner in this region, said the high commissioner.
He also informed that a high level delegation headed by Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim would be visiting Pakistan next month. A number of important bilateral agreements for promotion of business and strengthening of economic coordination are expected to be signed during that important visit.
High Commissioner Azhar Mazlan also drew parallels between the history and journey towards economic stability and independence of both Malaysia and Pakistan. There were challenges but the people of Malaysia overcome those challenges with resilience, unity and resolve, he said. He also highlighted Malaysia’s transition from an agriculture-based nation to an industrialized one, with a focus on modernization and cultural heritage.
Trade, said the high commissioner was a cornerstone of our bilateral relations, he noted adding significant growth had been achieved in this sector. Our current trade volume is estimated around US$ 1.6 billion to US$ 1.8 billion a year and there is an enhanced potential between the two countries in other areas as well such as to Halal Industry, green energy, Information Technology, tourism industry as well as education, he said.
He also mentioned contributions of the Pakistani community in the business and trade sector. Education is another sector where both countries are working closely with each other. Currently more than 5,000 students are enrolled at various universities and educational institutions of Pakistan, he informed.
Chief Guest Jamal Kamal Khan congratulated Malaysia’s high commissioner, his spouse Puan Amelia Amani Lee Abdullah, DHM, Mohd Syafik Firdaus Bin Hasbullah, the Malaysian nationals on the auspicious day. He underscored the deepening bonds between the two nations and highlighted Malaysia’s remarkable journey of progress and cooperation. Pakistan Observer Arshad khan sb also attended the meeting.
