Among those who committed suicide, six were reported in Faryab province alone. According to the findings, the number of girls who committed suicide is more compared to boys. Poverty, economic challenges and family violence are said to be the main reasons for the surge in the number of people who want to commit suicide.
“People are suffering from a range of problems such as poverty and hunger. Problems are spiking, that is why people are forced to commit suicide,” said Mustafa Noori, a resident of Kabul. Among those who committed suicide, six were reported in Faryab province alone. “Two of the male cases were related to poverty and economic challenges, and four female cases were due to some different issues,” said Mufti Mohammad Ismaeel Farqani, Criminal Director of Faryab Province’s Police.
Meanwhile, some psychologists also considered the increase in poverty and economic challenges as important causes of the increase in the number of suicides in the country. “The current situation, misfortune and crisess have made the problems increase,” Sharafudin Azimi, a psychologist. In addition to an increase in suicides, recent days have seen a rise in family violence-related killings. According to sources, two wives in Nimroz province killed their husbands on Thursday last week. On Saturday, a young man killed his uncle in Farah, while a father killed his son in Paktia. —Tolo News
