The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Sunday at least 13 Kabul residents, including a woman and a police officer, werewounded during a day of care-less shooting by Ahmad Shah Massoud supporters on Saturday.
Saturday was the 16th anniversary of Massoud’s assassination and the start of the Martyrs Week – a day marked officially inthe Loya Jirga tent in Kabul.
However, dozens of Massoud supporters drove through the streets of Kabul for hours, in convoys, shooting indiscriminately into the air – their cars adorned with pictures of Massoud.
Angry Kabul residents said such behavior was un-acceptable especially as many of these shooting incidents took place close to security check points.
Kabul garrison commander on Saturday said they had identified a number of culprits and that these people would be arrested.
The MoI said on Sunday that as a result of the shooting, 13 people, including a woman, were wounded and 12 people have been arrested in con-nection with the shootings.
“Thirteen civilians including a woman and a police officer have been wounded. The wounded are in stable condition, except forone person who was shot in his abdomen,” interior ministry spokesperson, Najib Danish said.
One Kabul resident, Abdul Wasee, said: “They even shot along the airport road, which is used a lot by foreigners. We want the security forces, and espe-cially the interior minister, to do something about this.” “We want government to stop such action. Such incidents only get broadcast on TV, but no action is ever taken against them,” another Kabul resident, Zalgai, said. Members of the Meshrano Jirga (Upper House of Parliament) meanwhile discussed the issue in their Sunday session.—TOLO
