Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Sherry Rehman said on Friday that her party had nominated former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari as its candidate for the prime minister slot. Addressing the press conference in Karachi, the former climate minister reacted to the Senate’s resolution seeking a delay in the general elections.

Sherry made it clear that her party was taking a clear stance in line with holding the general elections in the country. ”We [PPP] are ready for the elections,” she said. ”The PPP had not supported the resolution that has been passed in the Senate,” Rehman said. Referring to the security concerns, former federal minister Sherry Rehman said that PPP has been the biggest target of terrorism, pointing out the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

“Even the elections were held after Bibi’s [Benazir Bhutto] assassination,” she added. “We always wanted free, fair and timely polls,” she said, adding that there should be no more uncertainty in the country. “A resolution passed by the Senate is not a law”, she added.
