Insulting the legend

The ugly incident that took place during a sports live TV talk show on national television PTV where host of the show Dr. Nauman Niaz insulted Pakistan’s fast bowler and living legend Shoaib Akhtar and asked him to leave in the presence of West Indies former batting legend Sir Vivian Richards, former England captain David Gower, Pakistan women’s captain Sana Mir, Pakistan’s former fast bowler Umar Gul, Pakistan’s cricket coach Aaqib Javed and former wicket keeper Rashid Latif.

Despite efforts of Shoaib Akhtar for reconciliation during the commercial break, Dr. Nauman Niaz refused to apologize live on TV and ultimately Shoaib Akhtar was left with no option but to resign from the TV punditry job.

What was more shocking was that when Shoaib Akhtar left the show in a very calm and cool manner, the four Pakistani cricketers (Pakistan women’s captain Sana Mir, Pakistan’s former fast bowler Umar Gul, Pakistan’s cricket coach Aaqib Javed and former wicket keeper Rashid Latif) kept sitting without saying a word.

A legend of their country was being humiliated live on TV in the presence of foreign guests and the world was watching but these four cricketers kept sitting with their lips stitched.

They too should have left the show in protest because Shoaib Akhtar had said nothing offensive against Nauman Niaz.

Showing solidarity on social media is not enough. PTV should fire Dr. Nauman Niaz immediately before he causes any more embarrassment to Pakistan with his arrogant attitude with any other cricketing legend.

Lack access
to land

It is beyond belief that women in Zimbabwe struggle to have access to land and very few women in Zimbabwe own land.

The Zimbabwean government has not been issuing land to women as they did to men. Women in rural areas contribute effectively to the economy as they work hard in the production of crops.

It is not clear why the Zimbabwean government is failing to adequately give rural women abundant land available so that they can venture into significant and meaningful commercial production of crops.

There is too much corruption in the allocation of land in rural areas and the Zimbabwean government has failed to redistribute land in a fair and transparent manner.

The clueless, careless, and corrupt president of Zimbabwe has failed to distribute land equally and Zimbabwean women are struggling to get a piece of land.

Some of the rural women who failed to get land have migrated to South Africa and other neighbouring countries in search of employment. Women in Zimbabwe should show their strength and power in 2023 presidential elections.

They should vote against president Emmerson Mnangagwa who is turning a blind eye to the problems being encountered by women particularly in accessing fertile and productive land.

Water consumption in industries

In my recent internship in a textile industry, I observed the massive consumption of water in an industry which was basically a medium size industry. But it was consuming a large amount of water without any recycling plant.

They have a treatment plant but industries need to recycle their water in order to minimize water consumption. I observe there is no government policy or any restriction on them about usage of water.

We need to develop a strategy about water consumption and re-use in order to protect the future of our nation, otherwise there will be no ground water available for drinking purposes.

Government must provide them subsidies in order to develop/install modern technologies which help them minimize water consumption and upgradation to modern green technologies.

Dumping yard free society

Anything which is not utilized within the nature’s given time is waste. Recycle, reuse and reduce are the fundamental principles to utilize waste but due to some of the facts such as; our carelessness not to separate dry and wet waste, garbage scams settlements under the carpet, capping and closure strategy and trucks tipping fees etc, resultantly build the mountains of waste at landfill sites, especially in urban areas, which has been causing progressively many disasters.

Besides, decomposition of waste release toxic chemical “leachate” along with inflammable gases also the direct incineration of waste through various techniques cumulatively affects our crops, water and territory.

Introduce the flies and social bacteria consortium mixture in the dumping grounds, flies’ maggots eat and convert bio-digestible waste (70-80% produced per day) to compost, bacteria decompose waste to soil-like.

Then after gather up, remaining dry-waste can be sent for recycling purpose. At the end of the day if from beginning we segregate dry and wet-waste and municipal committees also take keen part to bear on decentralized or composting etc., methods in the utilization of waste.

Gwadar to Karachi

An agreement has been reached between Pakistan and China to develop the Karachi coast for the purpose of shifting the centre stage of Belt and Road project [CPEC] from Gwadar to Karachi.

Approximately after a couple of years’ gap the 10th Joint Cooperation Committee conference of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has been held earlier this week at that duration the Karachi Coastal Comprehensive Development Zone project was signed.

China is going to invest $3.5 billion in this project. The project is considered to develop new fisheries port, add new berths to Karachi port and on Karachi Port Trust, the western backwater marshland a 640-hectare trade zone be made. In order to connect the port with nearby Manora island, a harbor bridge will be built, said the news.

The Karachi Comprehensive Coastal Development Zone involvement in CPEC is named a “game changer” by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.

The project gives opportunities to investors, develop 20,000 low income housing units and for the fishermen clean up the marine habitat. However, for the Chinese national Gwadar seems like a problematic area.

It was a big chance Pakistan and China had to develop port in conflict zone since factors like mismanagement, transparency, corruption and lack of public support lost the interest in Gwadar port.

Building an energy hub, Gwadar was a failure in government’s plan because Gwadar faces massive protests of no water and power.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia in June planned of shifting a $10 billion oil refinery from Gwadar to Karachi.

Karachi is called the home of busiest port and the commercial hub of Pakistan therefore Chinese want to shift the CPEC centre-stage there. Hence, Gwadar faces a massive loss of foreign investment.
