Blasphemy & desecration

A tourist accused of desecrating the Quran was burnt alive by a mob in Swat in the custody of police. After that, things began to go haywire. A crowd gathered, which then raided the police station, tortured brutally and burnt the accused. This is a level of cruelty which has been specifically forbidden by the Islamic Shariah. Burning is a punishment that the Almighty has reserved for Himself and has forbidden His creatures from administering. This tragic incident exposes not just some private animus, but also raises questions on the ability of law enforcing agencies to tackle the fast and furious mob.

The Jaranwala church attack last August and the Sargodha attack in May were both over allegations of desecration of the Quran. The point is that the justice system has such a bad impression in the public that people are not prepared to trust it with blasphemy or desecration. Islam prescribes a system of laws, one which even takes in such an emotive issue as blasphemy or desecration and deals with it

The honour of a person is declared above the sanctity of Baitullah. The Holy Quran says that who saved a human’s life, he saved the whole humanity. Islam in its meaning is “Safety” of not only any human but animals and green trees as well. Taking law in one’s own hand and give punishment to culprit or accused cannot be allowed in a civilized society. The provincial government has primary responsibility for maintaining law and order, but the federal government also has a responsibility to make sure that no one, no matter the excuse, takes the law into his or her own hands.

Modi’s 3rd term

With Narendra Modi beginning his third term as Prime Minister of India, the country is witnessing significant changes in trade dynamics and the strengthening of security measures. India is actively diversifying its trade partners to reduce dependency on single nations and integrate more deeply into global supply chains. Strengthening relations with countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America is a key focus. The negotiation and signing of new Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates aim to boost exports and attract foreign investment.

Initiatives like “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” are boosting domestic manufacturing and reducing import dependency, supported by Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes that enhance export competitiveness. Additionally, India is pushing for growth in its digital economy and e-commerce sector, with investments in digital infrastructure and supportive regulatory frameworks. Increased involvement in regional trade initiatives is also evident.

On the security front, India is modernizing its military capabilities through indigenous production under the Defense Production Policy. Enhanced border security measures with Pakistan and China include advanced surveillance technologies. Counter-terrorism efforts are bolstered with international cooperation to strengthen regional security. Vigorous cybersecurity policies and dedicated agencies protect critical infrastructure. Strengthening alliances with the US, Japan and Australia, and participating in joint military exercises are top priorities.

India’s economic and security strategies under Modi’s third term present both challenges and opportunities for Pakistan. While heightened security tensions and economic competition may arise, there are also prospects for re-evaluating diplomatic strategies to ensure regional stability and cooperation. These developments necessitate careful observation and strategic responses from neighboring countries.

Modi’s third term as a Premier and first term heading with a coalition government will require him to change his policy making and adopt a more conciliatory tone while negotiating with his allies. Since independence Pakistan and India have fought many wars and Modi has inherited different relations with Pakistan after bilateral peace talks were suspended by his predecessor due to a periodic episodes of mistrust and unresolved territorial disputes.

In addition recently the notable development was congratulatory tweet from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as well as Nawaz Sharif for Modi on his success. India responded in kind that it will always stand for peace and progressive ideas.

According to Maleeha Lodhi, Modi will reach out to regional neighbours all of whom were invited to his swearing- in except for Pakistan. This brings out the result that his government is likely to continue its hardline towards Pakistan and will show no interest for any sort of engagement and this is unlikely to change. QURATULAIN

As the political landscape of India transitions significantly with Narendra Modi’s third term as Prime Minister, I find myself reflecting on Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poignant words, “The dawn of freedom is yet to come.” The path to wealth and peace continues to be difficult for both India and Pakistan.

While Modi’s election victory underscores the impact of nationalist rhetoric, it also raises concerns about the marginalization of minority voices and the erosion of secular values. The brutal reminders of the consequences of unchecked authority come from the violations of the Indian government in Kashmir and the suppression of dissenting voices.

We shape our understanding of the world through the narratives we construct. It is essential to challenge the prevalent misconception that India and Pakistan are destined to be perpetual adversaries. We must seek out the shared human stories those of love, despair and longing that bind us together.

In conclusion, as Modi begins his third term, Pakistan and India stand at a pivotal crossroads. The choice is evident, continue along the path of hostility and tension or embrace the opportunity to chart a new course based on dialogue, diplomacy and the pursuit of peace. The fate of millions hangs in the balance and the world watches with bated breath.
