SC’s historic verdict
Supreme Court’s judgment did away with the lifetime ban for politicians seeking to run for any legislative assembly. With the current political climate as charged as it is, many readers, especially those supporting the down-on-its-luck PTI, will allege that the decision is only to facilitate the PML(N) chief, former PM Nawaz Sharif and the leader of the PTI’s friend-turned-foe Jehangir Tareen, who heads a party of his own now. It is common in Pakistan to view developments through such a narrow lens.
The verdict awarded by the Supreme Court was announced after extensive discussion encompassing relevant constitutional provisions and ethical obligations. The larger issue, of course, is that of how to deal with flimsy bits of legislation that were put in by dictators, with a clear intention of throwing a spanner in the works of the democratic process. The constitution wounded by our own hands, amended into bloody submission by military dictators and then this destructive spree aided by giddy, overeager members of the judiciary.
That has led to situations like these, where rapists, murderers and arsonists simply serve out a sentence, after what the people have deemed is their debt to society, while representatives of the people, put away on flimsy cases like not declaring the salary they have gotten from their family members, or procedural irregularities in the buying and selling of state gifts, are declared ineligible to run for office, for life. This widely acclaimed verdict by constitutional experts as well as the public would pave the way for a stable democratic system in the count

PayPal launches
I’m writing to share with you how pleased I am with PayPal’s recent arrival in Pakistan. This innovation is revolutionary because it creates previously unheard-of possibilities for graduates and students to make money from anywhere in the world. Now that PayPal is available in Pakistan, our gifted young people can easily access the vast international market. Beyond national borders, entrepreneurs, freelancers and creative types can market their abilities and services globally. This increases earning potential on an individual basis and supports the nation’s overall economic expansion. PayPal’s availability makes it easier for students pursuing online education to get paid for services delivered. This facilitates financial transactions and fosters a more diverse and interconnected international academic community.
Essentially, PayPal’s entry into Pakistan is a financial independence and empowerment driver that opens avenues for our young people to engage in the global economy. The country stands to gain from their abilities, creativity, and contribution to the global economy as they negotiate opportunities on a larger scale.

Drug dilemma
The surge in drug addiction is ravaging Balochistan, posing dire challenges to our province. It profoundly impacts entrepreneurs, especially alarming is its impact on the youth, resembling an epidemic. Despite the severity, the government’s response falls short, failing to address this critical issue effectively.
Drug addiction wreaks havoc in Balochistan, yet government efforts lack urgency in conveying its severity. Like a spreading disease, it threatens our youth and society at large. The prevalence of drug-related illnesses, like lung cancer, is alarmingly high, emphasizing the urgent need for action. Swift and decisive measures are imperative to curb this escalating menace. I urge the government to prioritize eradicating drug addiction for the wellbeing and future of Balochistan.

Perils of E-learning
Through the esteemed columns of your newspaper, I wish to highlight the prevalent concerns and repercussions associated with online education. Online learning has garnered widespread popularity owing to its convenience and user-friendly nature. This trend surged notably during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 and 2021, with many educational institutions transitioning to online classes for student safety. However, it’s imperative to recognize the hazards accompanying online education, such as headaches, weakened eyesight, and diminished concentration. Engaging in online studies may hinder the development of students’ communication skills. Challenges related to slow internet connections and outdated devices further exacerbate the difficulty in accessing course materials. Additionally, students’ reduced involvement in social activities is another notable downside. In conclusion, it’s essential to acknowledge that while technology brings forth benefits, it also entails adverse effects. It’s crucial to strive towards harnessing the positive aspects while mitigating the negative impacts.
