Qatar said mediators were awaiting understanding between Oman and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz before revival of wider negotiations between the United States and Iran.
A spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said resolving the dispute surrounding the strategic waterway would significantly facilitate the return to diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran.
The spokesperson added that Qatar was maintaining direct communication with Iran regarding missing pilots and that its invitation for an Iranian delegation’s visit was still valid. However, Iran had yet to respond to the offer.
Qatar’s representative also dismissed Iran’s call for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to participate in the pilots’ matter, describing the request as a “media ploy.”
