Imagine Lahore just coming out of Eid celebrations, with festive lights still glowing and families still in the holiday mood, when city’s skies begin filling with colourful kites. That is the scene expected in March 2027, as Basant is set to return from March 12 to 14, bringing three more days of colour, music, rooftops and springtime excitement right after Eid ul-Fitr 2027.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that Basant 2027 will be held from March 12 to 14.
The announcement sets the stage for a three-day celebration featuring kite flying, music, cultural activities and festive gatherings across the provincial capital. The dates were revealed after Basant made a dramatic comeback in Lahore in 2026, ending a nearly two-decade hiatus and bringing back a tradition that had once defined the city’s spring season.
Maryam Nawaz invited young people from across Punjab and other parts of Pakistan to join the celebrations, while overseas Pakistanis and international visitors have also been encouraged to travel to Lahore and experience its cultural festivities and hospitality. CM hopes 2027 event will build on last year’s revival and deliver another memorable celebration.
The 2026 comeback turned Lahore’s rooftops into colourful gathering spots once again. Kites dominated the skyline as families reunited, music echoed through neighbourhoods and fireworks added to the festive atmosphere. For many residents, the revival was deeply personal.
Fifty-year-old banker Aamer Iqbal, who flew a kite with his daughter from his rooftop in Shah Jamal, said the experience transported him back to his childhood days with his parents and brother.
Basant has deep cultural roots in Punjab and is traditionally associated with the arrival of spring. Over the years, Lahore became the festival’s undisputed cultural centre, attracting enthusiasts from across Pakistan and, at its peak, visitors from abroad.
2026 revival was allowed under strict safety regulations, with authorities making it clear that the event’s outcome would be reviewed before decisions were taken regarding future celebrations. Now, with the 2027 dates officially announced, attention is shifting towards preparations for another major spring gathering.
